Adhesion Test (steel). The tape shall be tested to determine compliance with requirements specified in ASTM Method No. D3330. The adhesion value shall be 30 ounces per inch width, minimum.
Humidity test. A roll with 10 ± 1 yards of tape shall be suspended in a vertical position over water in a sealed container for 7 days at 73°F ± 3.5°F. At the end of this period, the tape shall be removed and immediate tested for adhesion to steel. When the tape is unwound at 6 to 8 inches per second, there shall be no adhesive transfer or splitting and the backing shall not break. Examine the outer laps of tape for each roll for color change. The adhesion to steel value shall not be less than 25 ounces per inch.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerance specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376, and all other requirements of this document are met.
If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch/pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
