Mayo stand cover. The Mayo stand cover shall measure a minimum of 23 by 55 inches, and shall be made of a plastic material that is impervious to fluids. The cover shall be reinforced with a minimum 20 by 24 inch piece of nonwoven fabric pad, laminated to the area that will cover the Mayo stand tray. The pad shall be suitable to absorb the heat and moisture of the instruments.

Towels. The pack shall contain at least one towel measuring a minimum of 15 by 20 inches, and shall be highly absorbent (not fluid repellent), so that the towel will dry two arms following a surgical scrub.

Suture bag. Each pack shall contain a plastic, paper or, nonwoven fabric suture bag.

Pack. Each pack shall contain the component described above, individually wrapped in a suitable tear resistant, heat sealed package which will allow aseptic handling, and maintain sterility of the contents unless opened. Each pack may also be wrapped in an exterior dust cover with all components clearly listed, along with the sterility lot number date of pack and the manufacturer’s name. The pack assembly from the top down shall be: towel on top of overwrapped scrub nurse gown, Mayo stand cover and surgeon’s gown, suture bag, head drape, split sheet. Each pack component shall be identified with the identification visible as the component is removed from the pack. Each component shall be clean and contain no foreign matter or tears.

Sterility. The surgical pack shall be sterile.

Workmanship. The surgical packs shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.

Unit. Package (PG). One package containing five or six individually packaged sterile surgical packs, as specified, constitutes one unit. Each surgical pack shall be packaged sterile in a tear-resistant heat sealed packaged which allows aseptic handling and maintains sterility of the contents until opened or damaged.
