A corrosion-resisting steel or nickel plated steel adjustable slide bar shall be assembled to the webbing on each side of the head sling. The slide bar and hook shall have no sharp edges and shall be the quick-release type. Two corrosion-resisting steel or nickel plated steel “D”, rings shall be furnished. The rings shall be capable of accepting an orthopedic style spreader bar.
Stitching shall be the lock stitch type, 6 to 10 stitches per inch. Thread shall be a soft nylon, size c, or equal. Where webbing meets the body of the head sling, there shall be a double row stitching, a bar-tack or a box-stitch across the width of the webbing.
Thread breaks shall be back-stitched not less than 1/2 at each break. Stitching ends not caught in other seams or stitching shall be back-stitched not less than 1/4 inch. As an alternate, the backstitching pattern of box-stitching machines is acceptable. All thread ends shall be trimmed and removed. The thread tension shall be maintained so that there shall not be any loose or tight stitching.
The head sling shall support a minimum weight of 75 pounds, spread uniformly over the area between the stitching of the pad, without any visible evidence of damage.
The design of the head sling shall prevent pressure on the neck, carotid artery, or nerves.
The head sling shall not contain any stains, spots, non-specified holes, abraded areas, tears, cuts, mends, patches, scorches, or needle chews.
The head sling shall not have an objectionable odor.
Each need sling shall have a label that is colorfast to laundering. The labeling shall be permanently marked with the name or registered trademark of the manufacturer and the size of the head sling; small, medium, or large, as applicable.
Workmanship. The head sling shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One sling, of the size specified, constitutes one unit.
