COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STOOL, REVOLVING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification AA-S-696.
This commercial item description covers a surgeon’s adjustable revolving stool.
Salient characteristics:
The surgeon’s stool shall be corrosion-resisting steel with four legs and a revolving, adjustable seat.
All parts of the stool except the seat screw and adapter flange shall be made of corrosion-resisting steel, American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) 300 series. As an alternate, the screw socket may be carbon steel with a corrosion-resisting steel housing.
The seat screw and adapter flange shall be AISI 1010 or 1215 carbon steel. The seat height shall be adjustable within a minimum range of 19 to 25 inches. It shall not be possible to inadvertently remove the seat.
The seat shall have a diameter between 12-1/2 and 15-1/2 inches with a slightly concave upper surface and well-rounded apron. Seat thickness shall be 0.078 inch minimum.
Top seat shall be parallel to the floor within 2 degrees when measured throughout one full revolution of the seat.
The four legs shall be constructed of tubing with a minimum wall thickness of 0.049 inch. The end of each leg shall be closed off flush with a metal cap or plug. A securely fitting electrically conductive rubber tip shall be on the bottom of each leg.
The stool shall have a leg brace parallel to the floor approximately 7 inches above the lower tips of the legs and welded thereto. The brace metal shall be 3/8 inch minimum diameter rod or 3/4” minimum O.D. tubing.
