There shall be a drawer located immediately beneath the flat table top. The depth (front-to-back) of the drawer shall be commensurate with the depth of table top; the length of the drawer shall be not less than 16 inches. There shall be an adequate strap handle provided on the front of the drawer.
There shall be a syringe rack of corrosion-resisting steel or suitable durable plastic, designed to fit snugly and securely on the bottom of the drawer.
The rack shall be constructed to hold at least 12 standard 5 cc. and 2 cc. hypodermic syringes and attached needles securely in an acceptable aseptic fashion. The rack shall be so fabricated that its thorough cleaning will not be a difficult or impossible operation. The rack shall also be equipped with individual clip holders to accommodate patient identification cards. The rack shall be equipped with an appropriate handle or other lifting device so that it may be easily and quickly removed or inserted.
The drawer shall be so designed and constructed that when closed and with the carriage in motion, it will not inadvertently open. The drawer shall be provided with a suitable type of locking device to eliminate the possibility of the drawer being completely pulled out by the user; the drawer, however, should be so constructed that it can be removed from the carriage for cleaning.
The carriage shall be equipped with a lower shelf. The lower shelf shall include an adequate encircling apron.
There shall be a lower drawer included immediately beneath the lower shelf, similar to the upper drawer included immediately beneath the lower shelf, similar to the upper drawer. The height of the lower drawer shall be approximately 6 inches and there shall be no accommodations for the syringe rack.
There shall be a guard rail located approximately 3 inches above the lower shelf completely encircling the carriage.
The entire carriage shall be mounted on suitable ball-bearing, swivel-type casters, each caster to be at least 4 inches in diameter.
Shall be so constructed that all corners shall be rounded and edges smooth so that there will be no danger of cutting the hands of the operator by sharp corners, or tearing of clothing of an operator who may inadvertently brush against the item in passing.
Workmanship. The medicine cart shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One cart, as specified, constitutes one unit.
