CART, MEDICINE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a corrosion-resisting steel medicine cart designed to provide a complete unit with all accessories necessary for use by nursing personnel in distributing and administering medication, oral and parenteral, to patients in military hospitals.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a medicine carriage designed and constructed in such a manner that it will provide a complete unit with all accessories necessary for use by nursing personnel in preparing, distributing, and administering medication, oral and parenteral, to patients in wards of military hospitals.
Shall be constructed of approximately 20 gauge corrosion-resisting steel throughout, with suitable corrosion-resisting hardware.
Shall consist essentially of a carriage mounted on 4 tubular uprights or legs on top of which is included a flat table-type top and appropriate encircling apron and a removable or hinged stepped-up medicine tray with 3 or 4 steps, each step with circular cutout openings, to accommodate standard 1 oz. medicine glasses. Each riser shall contain holders to hold securely an identification card for each medicine glass behind it. The tray shall hold at least 24 medicine glasses.
The carriage shall be approximately 36 inches high from the floor to the flat table top; the height of the carriage from the floor to the top step of the stepped-up medicine tray shall be not more than 44 inches. The length of the table top shall be not less than 20 inches, the width not less than 16 inches and inch square. There shall be a guard rail or fence extending above the flat table top along at least the two ends and across the back.
A rectangular stainless steel tray with cover shall be provided. This tray shall be approximately 9 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 2 inches deep. The cover shall be provided with an appropriate handle. The tray shall be suitable for the purpose of disposing of used hypodermic syringes after injection/
There shall be provided a stainless steel pitcher with hinged cover and handle. The pitcher shall have a capacity of approximately 2 quarts. The pitcher shall be provided with a suitable pouring lip.
