Sampling for inspection and tests. Sampling for tests, including dimensional test shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105, with an AQL 2.5 (percent defective) and an inspection level of S-1. The unit of product for test purposes shall be one ambulance stretcher.
Tests.
Maneuverability. Six hundred pounds shall be distributed over a 6-foot section of the stretcher, in the raised position, 400 pounds to be placed in the body section and 200 pounds to be placed on the head section. With this load in place, the stretcher shall be rolled on a smooth surface in all directions on the casters. This test shall be repeated with the head section adjusted in all possible positions. Failure to roll smoothly and easily under loading, shall constitute a defect.
Load-bearing capability. The stretcher, in the raise position, shall be supported by means of horses at the extreme end of the foot section frame and at the crossbar of the telescoping frame, so that casters are off the floor. The frame shall be in the fully-extended position. The head section shall be in a horizontal position. The stretcher shall be loaded as specified above. Load shall be applied for a minimum of 1 hour. At the conclusion of the test, the telescoping frames shall be tested for freedom and ease of motion. Any evidence of distortion or permanent set to parts shall constitute a defect.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met.
If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request shall be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
