A 3 inch plus or minus ½ inch thick foam rubber mattress covered with an artificial leather, or other suitable material cover.

In the fully lowered position the top of the bed frame shall be 12 inches or less above the floor. In the fully raised position the top of the bed frame shall be 34 inches plus or minus 1 inch above the floor. The backrest shall be adjustable through an arc of 90^o from the horizontal to the vertical.

The bed frame, including the backrest, shall have a suitable spring fabric, series of metal strip supports, or other suitable means of supporting the mattress.

The stretcher shall be provided with four double ball-bearing swivel casters having rubber tires or solid rubber wheels which shall be between 4 inches and 6 inches in diameter. Caster forks,  wheels (if used), axles and other parts, may be made of metals of suitable corrosion resistance and appearance. Two of the casters mounted on diagonally opposite corners, shall be provided with positive locking, foot operated, wheel locks.

Welding shall be durable, sound in every detail and in accordance with the latest practices recommended by the American Welding Society. Surfaces to be welded shall be free from grease, oil, oxide, or other foreign matter. All weld joints shall blend into the adjustable metal in gradual, smooth curves. Beads shall be smooth and free of slag, excessive undercut, or excessive splatter. Sufficient metal shall be added to provide a suitable fillet or reinforcement. All welds shall be continuous with no visible voids, pin holes, or cracks.

All stretcher tubing shall have a satin finish or better. All stretcher finish shall be uniform and free of scratches, discoloration, and rough grind marks. The stretcher shall have no sharpness on exposed surfaces, edges, or corners. The stretcher shall be clean and free of oil, grease, dirt, or other contamination.
