Both type bags shall be fabricated of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a suitable mixture of synthetic and natural rubber. The outside surfaces of the bags shall be free from tackiness and the inside surfaces of the bags shall not stick together. The rubber compound shall be free from any ingredient that might cause irritation of the skin. The tensile strength of the rubber compound in the bag shall not be less than 1300 pounds per square inch.
Both type bags shall be reinforced at seams and throat and constructed so they can be closed water tight with a noncorrosive screwcap. The screwcap shall be made of a corrosion-resisting metal, polystyrene, polyethylene, or polypropylene. The thread of the screwcap shall mate smoothly with the thread of the bag opening.
The tying tabs of the bags shall be any standard commercial color. The color shall be permanent.
The exterior surfaces of the body of the bags shall be smooth for the patient’s comfort. They shall be free of unspecified protrusions, occlusions, flash, and imbedded foreign matter.
The outside surface of the bags shall be free of cuts, cracks, abrasions, tears, pits, or pinholes. It shall be free of dirt, grease, oil, and other foreign matter.
Workmanship. The ice bag shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One bag, as specified, constitutes one unit.
