BEDS, ADJUSTABLE (Electric)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to VA Specification X554h.
This commercial item description describes a general ward use electric bed.
Salient characteristics: Beds, Adjustable (Electric) with IV pole meets the following general requirements:
Type 1, Fixed Patient Control: Mounted as integral part of bed frame or side rails.
Type II, Pendant Patient Control: Operated on isolated low voltage or pneumatically sealed to prevent fluid penetration with connections on each side.
Construction: All steel frame mounted on 5 inch swivel casters, two with tread lock brakes (one at head and one at foot end) with head and footboards easily removed without the use of tools. Head board to accommodate a swinging arm type trapeze assembly or bed be provided with a trapeze support bracket capable of supporting a 275 pound (123.75 kg) load without permanent distortion. Bed shall have six IV mounts (3 on each side) located at head, seat and footend of frame. Bed equipped with chromium plated, epoxy coated or nylon side rails firmly attached to the main frame, easily adjustable and fastened securely in all attainable positions minimum length of 54 inches (137.16 cm). Perforated or solid steel pan with mattress stop at foot end to accommodate an 80 x 36 inch (203.2 x 91.44 cm) mattress and capable of supporting a 300 pound (135 kg) load placed on any corner without permanent deformity of any part of the bed. Shielded motors and drivetrains; gauge markings to indicate the extent (angle or verticle distance) to which the bed is inclined; frame and other components secured by continuous welds, steel rivets or bolts, spot or tack welds. Bolt type fasteners to include positive type locking features. Metal surfaces not of corrosion resisting steel coated with an epoxy resin or similar protective coatings, baked enamel prohibited. Protective bumpers to prevent damage or marring of walls. Each bed permanently marked with manufacturer’s name, model, serial number and packed to completely enclose bed.
Functions: Independent straight-line Trendelenburg, straight-line reverse Trendelenburg, vascular, Fowler, semi-Fowler, and straight-line high/low attainable electronically without the aid of hand manipulation. Cardiac chair attainable with minimal manual assistance. All patient controls require constant pressure type. Nurse controls at foot end of the bed, constant pressure type with patient lockout feature. Trendelenburg positions-easily attainable from foot end of bed. Horizontal position attainable with auxiliary manual crank in case of power or motor failure. Fowler and semi-Fowler positions attainable from either side of bed.
