TUBING, STERILIZATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-37027.
This Commercial Item Description covers heat sealable polyethylene tubing used for packaging medical supplies for gas sterilization and storage in military medical facilities.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be extruded, low density, lat flat, transparent polyethylene tubing suitable for packaging medical supplies for ethylene oxide gas sterilization and storage. The tubing shall be supplied in four sizes, each 75 feet in length.
Size 1 3 inches wide
Size 2 5 inches wide
Size 3 10 inches wide
Size 4 20 inches wide
Width tolerance shall be ± 1/8 inch for size 1 and 2 and ± 1/4 inch for size 3 and 4.
The low density polyethylene film shall be extruded from Sinclair-Koppers Dylan 1000 F resin, Gulf Incs 4524, or equal.
The polyethylene film shall have a minimum ethylene oxide gas permeability of 100,000 cc per mil thickness, per square meter, per 24 hours, at 70 degrees F, and 29.92 inches of hq atmospheric pressure.
The nominal single film thickness shall be 0.0030 inch. The walls of the tubing shall be free of defects which will interfere with its proper use and function.
The tubing shall be tinted green to identify it with gas sterilization.
Instructions for using the tubing shall be provided with each roll including directions that tubing should not be used if it has had contact with strong acids or chlorinated and aromatic solvents at temperatures over 122 degrees Fahrenheit, to preclude chemical reaction and possible toxic by-products.
The tubing shall be furnished in a suitable, easy-to-use, dispenser type container.
