Sampling for tests. Sampling for tests, including dimensional test, shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105, with an AQL of 2.5 (percent defective) and an inspection level of S-1. The unit of product for test purposes shall be one hot water bottle/ice bag.
a. First article. Where a first article sample is required, all tests shall be performed on that unit.
b. Acceptance testing. When a first article sample has not been required, one unit shall be subjected to the performance test specified herein. If a test article sample has successfully passed all tests, performance test shall not be required at acceptance.
Tests
Load strength of Tab. The type I bag shall be filled with 2 quarts of water and closed. The bag shall be suspended by the eyelet of the tab upside down on a hook. The bag shall be suspended for one hour. Any evidence of tab failure or damage shall constitute a defect.
Leakage. The Type I bag shall be filled with 2 quarts of water and closed. All traces of water on the exterior of the bag, including the opening, shall be removed. The bag shall be placed on a flat, horizontal, supporting surface. A flat board shall be placed on top of the bag, but not on the neck. A load of 150 pounds shall be applied onto the board, using weights or a press. The board and the flat supporting surface shall be kept approximately parallel. The load shall be maintained for one hour, and the bag shall be examined for evidence of leakage. Any evidence of leakage shall constitute a defect.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376 and all other requirements of this document are met.
If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch/pound units, a request shall be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
