COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BOTTLE, SCREW CAP (Prescription)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification DD-B-585b (DSA-DM) as applicable to a 32-ounce light-resistant Type II, Style I screwcap bottles.
This commercial item description covers a 32 fluid ounce light-resistant prescription glass bottle with screwcap closure for dispensing liquid pharmaceutical preparations.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a 32 fluid ounce nominal capacity light-resistant glass bottle with a screwcap closure, suitable for dispensing liquid pharmaceutical preparations.
Shall comply with the provisions of the Pharmacopeia of the United States (USP) pertaining to tight containers and light-resisting type NP glass containers.
The bottle shall have a narrow mouth opening, with shoulders formed by the extension of the neck into the sides of the bottle. The neck of the bottle shall have an exterior continuous type threaded finish for the screw cap closure. The sides of the bottle shall be rectangular or oval, or flat on one side and oval on the other. The capacity point of the bottle (i.e liquid level in bottle of nominal capacity) shall not extent above bottom level of the neck or below bottom level of the shoulder. The nominal capacity of the bottle shall be indicated on the bottle. The manufacturer’s commercial symbol or designation for milliliter or fluid ounce capacity of the bottle shall be acceptable.
The screwcap closure shall be fabricated of opaque plastic and shall be fitted with an inside liner. The liner shall be secured to the inside of the screwcap in such a manner that it does not fall out. The liner shall have a facing that is impervious to water. In closure the liner shall make full contact with the upper edge of the bottle and form an affective seal against leakage.
Reference standard. Where standard is referenced herein, the issue of that standard in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Workmanship. The bottle and screwcap closure shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing eighteen bottles constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or
