CHAIR, BATHTUB AND SHOWER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a chair used in the transfer of patients in and out of the tub.
Salient characteristics:
CHAIR, BATHTUB AND SHOWER, shall be a minimum of 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) diameter rust resistant anodized aluminum tubing; reversible patient seat and back; 4 adjustable legs level to the floor and provided with non-marring suction cups and/or rubber tips (or both) that are skid resistant; 3 vinyl cushion seat pads and 1 vinyl cushion backrest; with the following measurements:
backrest height a minimum of 11-3/4 inches (measured from top of seat to top of backrest) (29.8 cm);
seat height (in lowest position) minimum 16 inches to a minimum of 19 inches in highest position (measured from floor to top of seat) (41 cm to 48 cm);
seat length, minimum 15 inches (38 cm) (seat only measured);
bench length, minimum 24 inches (61 cm);
seat dept/width, 16 inches, plus or minus 1-1/4 inch (41 cm plus or minus 3 cm);
overall bench dept, minimum 20 inches (51 cm) (measured from front leg to backrest);
overall bench length, minimum 29 inches (measured at outside of bottom leg) (74 cm);
weight of chair, 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 kg to 6.8 kg);
weight capacity a maximum of 250 pounds (113 kg).
Workmanship. The chairs shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
