This commercial item description describes a four-legged device used to provide moderate weight support while walking by means of a metal frame. It is used by disabled persons who lack strength, good balance, or endurance.
Salient characteristics. Walker, Invalid, fully assembled, anodized 1 inch (2.5 cm) [(+ 1/16” (0.16 cm)] aluminum tubing (plating not blistered/flaked/peeled); nut and bolt construction of solid rivets (if rivets are supplied, must be cadmium steel with a chromate finish); metal adjustment pins and springs (adjustment pins and holes to be properly aligned to provide maximum stability); providing 4 legs level to the floor, each leg supplied with a silencer; designed to permit over-the-toilet use (at least 16 inches [(40.6 cm) (+1/2” (1.27 cm)] from the floor with the walker in lowest position), stable, dual side braces, height adjustment in one inch (2.5 cm) increments, quiet, smooth operation; nonmoveable, nonslip light colored handgrips, matching nonmarring snug fitting rubber tips with steel washer insert; measures at least 16 inches to 18 inches [(40.6 cm to 45.7 cm) (+1/4” (0.64 cm)] between handgrip and not less than 21 inches to 24 inches [(53.3 cm to 60.9 cm) (+1” (2.54 cm)] between bottom rear legs. Pinch points and sharp edges not allowed, manufacturer’s name affixed to the product that will remain intact and identifiable under normal usage.
Type I – Non-folding, weights no more than 6 pounds (2.72 kg.)
Type II – Folding (Positive Lock Design) reinforced chrome plated steel front crossbrace; weighs no more than 7 pounds (3.2 kg.)
