IRRIGATION KIT, PATIENT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for VA Specification X-1377f, which is cancelled, and in lieu of Military Specification MIL-I-36969A.
This commercial item description describes a kit suitable for one time use in bladder, gastrointestinal, and wound irrigation.
Salient characteristics. Irrigation kit, Patient shall be a sterile, disposable, repackaged assembly, suitable for use in both surgery and nursing procedures. The kit shall be suitable for bladder, gastrointestinal, and wound irrigation and for specimen collection and transport. A waterproof hospital overwrap of sufficient size to permit wrapping of tray, with components inside, for aseptic handling. The hospital overwrap shall provide a sterile field for the manipulation and utilization of the components during surgery and shall provide protection for bed sheets.
The syringe shall be inserted into the solution container and both placed in the tray. The tray shall be then be completely wrapped in the hospital overwrap in a manner that will facilitate aseptic handling and provide a sterile field for use in the operating room. The entire assembly shall then be packed and sealed in a plastic peel type bag capable of maintaining sterility until manual opened. The outer package shall be of a design which facilities aseptic handling. The entire kit shall then be sterilized in a manner acceptable to the Food and Drug Administration.
Type I – Irrigation kit shall consist of the following components.
Plastic BULB type syringe (50/60 ml/cc) with protection tip cover; bulb and syringe securely assembled for an air tight seal. Catheter tip syringe opening shall be a minimum of 3/16 inch ID; must have capability of removing solution with no more than 20 ml remaining in container.
Minimum 1000 ml/cc capacity graduated plastic tray or basin.
Minimum 500 ml/cc capacity graduated plastic solution container.
A waterproof underpad, minimum size 16 by 18 inches
