COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAD, PREOPERATIVE PREPARATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for MIL-P-37591 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a non-sterile disposable drape suitable as an absorbent and moisture-impermeable protective bed or table cover for use under patient during pre-operating scrubbing.
Salient characteristics:
The non-sterile, disposable pad (drape) shall be suitable for use under a patient during pre-operative scrubbing. One side of pad shall be white, absorbent, non woven fabric. The underside of the pad shall be coated with a plastic material impermeable to water. The pad shall have a tensile strength of not less than 9 pounds in machine direction and not less than 5 pounds in the cross direction. The pad shall have a surface resistivity of 1 x 1011 ohms per square inch maximum at 50 percent R.H. or shall otherwise meet the antistatic requirements of NFPA 56A.
The pad shall have a single sheet of the coated fabric with a fold at one end to form at least a five inch cuff. The cuff shall be formed by heat sealing plastic to plastic. The cuffed pad shall be nominal 44 inches long and 24 inches wide.
The pad shall meet the flammability requirement of Test Method 5908 of Federal Standard 191 in not less than 3.5 seconds.
Each pad shall be folded in such a manner as to facilitate opening and placement. The preoperative preparation pad shall be able to withstand ethylene oxide sterilization.
Workmanship. The preoperative preparation pad shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
