TRAY, INSTRUMENT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a corrosion-resisting metal instrument tray with cover suitable for protecting microsurgical instrumental during sterilization and transportation.
Salient characteristics:
The instrument tray shall be suitable for use in storing and sterilizing instruments used in ophthalmic microsurgery. The tray shall be furnished in the following three styles and approprimate sizes:
Style 1 – 8 inches by 13 inches by 1.75 inches (20.3 by 33.0 by 4.5 cm ) with a handle on each of three sides.
Style 2 – 8-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches by 1.75 inches (21.0 by 21.0 by 4.5 cm) with a 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches (6.4 by 6.4 cm) compartment for extremely small instrument, and at least one carrying handle.
Style 3 – 8-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches by 1.75 inches (21.0 by 21.0 by 4.5 cm) with at least one carrying handle.
The tray shall be constructed of American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) 300 series corrosion-resisting steel, properly hardened and passivated, or of sturdy, long-wearing anodized aluminum.
The tray shall have multiple small perforations, or slots, on all surfaces to allow steam or ethylene oxide penetration and circulation during sterilization. Steam condensation shall be minimal.
The tray shall have a hinged type cover with a securing mechanism for locking. The cover shall rest evenly on the body of the tray. The tray shall rest evenly on a flat surface without rock or wobble.
