CART, MEDICINE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a medicine cart suitable for holding unit dose patient medication.
Salient characteristics:
The medicine cart shall contain medication drawers, a narcotics drawer, and miscellaneous supply drawers.
The medicine cart shall have the following approximate dimensions:
Height: 43-1/4 inches (109.85 cm)
Width: 22 inches (55.88 cm)
Depth: 28 inches (71.12 cm)
The medicine cart shall contain five open-framed, portable cassettes. Each cassette shall be primarily constructed of a 3 gauge and 7 gauge plastic coated wire frame. Each cassette shall contain 16 removable patient medication drawers. The medication drawers shall be supported by 11 gauge (plastic coated wires attached to the exterior frame.
Each of the medication drawers shall be approximately 2-1/8 inches (5.40 cm) high, 4 inches (10.16 cm) wide and 11 inches (27.94 cm) deep with a stop located on the rear of the drawer to allow for full extension of the drawer. An identification card slot, approximately 3 inches (7.62 cm) by 1-1/2 inches (3.81 cm), shall be located at the front of the drawer. An identification card shall be supplied for every medication drawer.
The medicine cart shall be supplied with patient medicine drawer dividers and a minimum of three divider slots. Each drawer shall contain three dividers to enable it to be divided into four compartments.
