BAG, SPECIMEN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description
This Commercial Item Description covers mailing bags for leak-proof shipping of containers with biomedical specimens.
Salient Characteristics:
Shall be sealable transparent mailing bags that are suitable for leak-proof shipping of containers with urine or blood specimens. Each bag shall have an envelope or pouch type opening and an extended lip or flap with an adhesive fop self-sealing closure of the bag.
Shall be mailing bags with the following outside dimensions for the pouches:
4-1/2 Width X 6-1/2 Long (inches)
5 Width X 6-1/2 Long (inches)
The 4-1/2 X 6-1/2 inch size bag shall accommodate an inserted screw capped bottle having overall dimensions of 3-1/2 inch high and 2-1/4 inch diameter or 2 inch square (as measured at center of the bottle) The 5 X 6 inch size bag shall accommodate an inserted screw capped bottle having overall dimensions of 3-3/4 inch high and 2-1/2 inch in diameter or square (as measured at center of the bottle) .
Shall be fabricated from heat sealable 3 mil thick nylon/polyethylene sheet material that provides a barrier against the transfer of odor, air and moisture.
Shall be designed such that the bag closures and sealings can be accomplished by a self-sealing adhesive closure and/or by heat sealing.
