CUSHION, RING, INFLATABLE
(Rubber)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Federal Specification ZZ-C-796D which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a rubber, inflatable ring cushion.
Salient characteristics:
The inflatable ring cushion shall be a rubber cushion suitable for use by medical patients who experience painful pressure when in the sitting or reclining position. The cushion shall be designed to provide circumferential support in rectal and adjacent areas.
The cushion shall be round with an open center. The cushion shall have the following dimensions when deflated:
Outside diameter – 18 inches plus or minus 5/8 inch.
Inside diameter – 5 inches plus or minus 1/2 inches.
The cushion shall be made from natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a mixture of the two. The rubber compound shall be free from any ingredient which may cause irritation or sensitization of the skin. The cushion shall be provided with a plated metal, or corrosion-resisting metal, air-tight screw-tightening air valve, securely sealed to the cushion body.
The cushion rubber thickness shall be a minimum of 0.030 inch thick with a tensile strength, before aging of 1600 pounds per square inch. The cushion shall be tested in accordance with any recognized commercial standard or method for rubber thickness and tensile strength.
