COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LIGHT, SURGICAL, STAND
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for MIL-L-36353B, which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers one type of mobile surgical light suitable for use in operating rooms.
Salient characteristics:
The surgical operating room light shall be mobile, explosion-proof, and constructed to comply with Underwriters’ Laboratories UL 781, Class I, Group C and the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet No. 56A, “Coded for the Use of Inhalation Anesthetics”.
The light shall consist essentially of a base, a telescopic upright, a pantograph, or spring-balance type of extension arm, and a lamphead.
A circular base of sufficient size and weight to provide adequate stability against tipping shall be provided. The base shall be equipped with conductive casters which allow ease of noise-free movement and provide stability.
The extension arm shall permit a vertical movement of the lamphead of a minimum of 18 inches measured at the center of the lamphead. The reflector shall be of the “open” type. The light shall be equipped with a sterilizable, removable, adjustment handle which attaches to the center of the lamphead.
The height of the upper pivot point of the extension arm above the floor with the telescoping rod fully extended shall be approximately 65 inches. The telescopic section of the upright shall be of such dimension that the lamphead can be adjusted vertically through a distance of approximately 27 inches.
