COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DUST COVER, PLASTIC, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a heat or tape sealable plastic bag suitable for use as a dust cover for sterilized medical supplies and instruments.
Salient characteristics:
The surgical, plastic dust cover shall be a bag type, clear polyethylene cover suitable for protecting sterilized medical supplies from dust contamination when sealed by heat or tape.
The dust cover shall be supplied in the following sizes:
Size I 10 inches wide by 15 inches long
(25.4 by 38.1 cm)
Size II 16 inches wide by 20 inches long
(40.6 by 50.8 cm)
Widths and lengths specified for indicated bag size shall be minimum dimensions. Dimensional tolerances within each lot of material shall be plus or minus 1/4 inch for width and length.
The polyethylene film used in the construction of the bag shall be 3 mils ± 1/2 mil thick.
The dust cover shall be sealed, or closed, on three ends. One sealed,-or closed, end shall have a tear line suitable for rapid opening without use of a scissors, knife, or other instrument. A perforated tear line shall not be acceptable as this would compromise sterility. The open end of the dust cover shall be readily sealable by use of heat or tape. Cover seams shall be free of-wrinkles or bunching.
