COVER, DUST, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a plastic dust cover suitable for providing a bacterial barrier for sterile surgical instrument trays against contamination due to dust, moisture, air, and human error.
Salient characteristics:
The surgical dust cover shall be a soft, pliable, clean, 3 mil thick, plastic cover, 24 inches by 30 inches (60.9 cm by 76.2 cm), suitable for providing a bacterial barrier against contamination of sterile surgical instrument trays due to dust, moisture, air, and human error. The cover shall easily fit a wrapped 15 inch by 20 inch (38.1 cm by 50.8 cm) instrument tray.
The cover shall be fabricated of a medical grade 3 mil ± 0.5 mil thick copolymer material.
One end of the cover shall be open and shall be capable of heat sealing closure. When heat sealed, the cover shall offer an extended shelf life for hospital sterilized packs and trays. The end of the cover opposite the open end shall have tear lines for easy opening. A perforated line shall not be acceptable.
Each cover shall be clearly printed with “Instructions For Use”. A contrasting information block shall be provided to enhance dating and labeling of contents. The information block shall accept labeling by all point pens and most felt tip pens without smudging of the writing.
The cover shall be free of tears, holes, perforations, and thin spots. It shall be free of oil, grease, dirt, or other foreign material.
