COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TOWEL PACK, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in place of Military Specification MIL-T-36916A.
This Commercial Item Description covers a sterile, disposable towel pack used for major and minor surgery.
Salient characteristics:
The surgical towel pack shall be sterile, sealed pack containing four large disposable absorbent towels and one fabric outerwrap suitable for use in surgical operating rooms. Towels and outerwrap shall be made of non-woven fabric.
Towels shall be constructed of fully bleached pulp tissue bonded to nylon or rayon reinforcing yarns. Tissue of towels shall be approximately 40 pounds basis weight, which shall be in accordance with T-40 of TAPPI.
The following shall be additional physical characteristics of the towel:
Size:
Minimum width – 19 inches
Minimum area – 494 square inches
The dimensions shall not vary more than 10 percent after sterilization.
Tensile Strength:
Machine direction – 10.0 lbs per inch, minimum average.
Cross direction – 8.0 lbs per inch, minimum average.
Weight: 2.0 ounce per square yard, minimum
Hand of fabric:
Machine direction – 35.0 grams, maximum average.
Cross direction – 35.0 grams, maximum average.
