INDICATOR, STERILIZATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers sterilization indicators designed for replacement inside packages prepared for steam or ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization.
Salient characteristics:
Sterilization indicators shall be designed for replacement inside packages containing items to be sterilized by use of steam or ethylene oxide/Freon rich gas mixtures (12/88). Indicators described here are not for use in 100% ethylene oxide sterilization cycles. Indicators shall be constructed of sensitized paper and display a linear scale, single bar design. The single bar shall have as one end point an area marked unsafe or reject, as applicable. The single bar shall have as a second end point an area marked safe or accept, as applicable. A distinct color change along the bar from the are marked unsafe or reject into the area marked sale or accept shall be proof the item has been exposed to the parameters necessary to achieve sterilization.
