BAND, ALLERGY IDENTIFICATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to A-A-0051733 (DM), dated 28 November 1986.
This commercial item description covers a red colored, plastic identification band suitable for use in medical treatment facilities to assure positive identification of adult patients who have allergies.
Salient characteristics:
The band shall be fabricated of a soft, pliable, nontoxic plastic that shall be red in color to identify patients with allergies and having “ALLERGY ALERT” printed in white letters next to the fastener end of the band. The band shall fasten by means of a plastic snap that cannot for writing information, such as the type of allergy, with a pen containing waterproof ink. One such pen shall be provided with each package of bands. The band shall be of sufficient length to form an 11 inch (27.94 cm) circumference when clasped and shall be nominally 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) wide for the strap portion and 1 inch (2.54 cm) wide for the printed and writing area.
Instructions. Complete and clear instructions for use of the bands shall be included with each package of bands.
Workmanship. The bands and pen shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 250 bands and one pen, as specified, constitutes one unit.
