SPECIMEN TRAP, MUCUS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile, disposable, fluid, or mucus trap, suitable for aseptically obtaining mucus or fluid for cytology examinations.
Salient characteristics:
The fluid or mucus trap shall be sterile, disposable and have a flat bottom and a removable, friction-fit, overlapping top.
The trap shall have a capacity pf 80 ml and shall be fully graduated in increments of at least 2 ml.
The trap top shall have two holes with short integral preassembled tubes. One tube shall have an integral tapered male connector with a sterile peel-off cap. One tube shall have an integral female connector.
The trap shall be furnished with a self-sticking patient label.
All components, except the patient label, shall be fabricated of a suitable plastic material.
The container shall be transparent for visual examination of the fluid or mucus.
The trap shall be free of burrs, cracks, flash, and sharp or ragged edges.
The trap shall be sterile and individually packaged in a suitable peel-open container which will allow aseptic handling and maintains sterility of the contents until opened or damaged.
Workmanship. The specimen trap shall be free from defects which may detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
