PAD, HOT-COLD TREATMENT, CIRCULATING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Interim Federal Specification O-P-001074
This commercial item description covers a controlled temperature pad unit suitable for hot or cold therapeutic treatment.
Salient characteristics:
The unit shall be a controlled temperature pad for therapeutic treatment involving hot or cold applications either wet or dry.
The pad unit shall consist of:
a. A temperature control unit containing a sealed motor combined with a pump; a water reservoir; an electrical heating element in the reservoir; an adjustable thermostat to control the heated water temperature; a removable control knob for the adjustable thermostat; an over-temperature thermostat; a pilot light; and a 3-wire power cord terminated with a 3-prong hospital grade plug.
b. A Flexible vinyl plastic pad approximately 12 by 15 inches (30.48 by 38.10 cm) with an appropriate length of twin tubing.
The temperature control unit shall operate on 115 volts, 60 Hz, Alternating electrical current.
In heat therapy, the control of the watt heating element shall be such that the temperature control unit will maintain water temperature to within plus or minus 1°F through a range of 85°F – 105°F (29°C – 41°C). An over-temperature thermostat shall be provided which will activate between 108°F and 114°F (42°C and 45.5°C).
The hot-cold treatment pad shall attain operational temperature in less than 10 minutes when filled with water having a temperature of 50°F to 60°F and operated in an ambient temperature of 70°F to 80°F (22°C – 28°C).
