BRUSH-SPONGE, SURGICAL SCRUB
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description
This Commercial Item Description covers a brush-sponge suitable for scrub-up in surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Each surgical scrub brush-sponge shall consist of a block bristles on one side, and sponge on the other side.
The surgical scrub brush-sponge shall be disposable, with non-irritating bristles with a foam sponge backing.
Each block and bristles shall be one piece construction and formed from polyethylene or other suitable .material. The block shall be U-shaped and channeled for flexibility. The sides of the block shall have easy grip handles. The block shall be approximately 2 ± 1/16 inches by 3 ± 1/16 inches. The bristles shall be 1/2 ± 1/32 inch high.
The sponge side shall be Polyurethane or other suitable material. The sponge shall be 1 by 2 by 3 inches with a tolerance of ± 1/16 inch per side.
The sponge side shall be impregnated with detergent containing hexachlorophene, 450 mg, 3 percent effective for cleansing and degerming the skin.
The brush-sponge shall be individually packaged with an enclosed nail cleaner and be ready-to-use. The nail cleaner shall be polystyrene or other suitable material.
