The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a disposable, empty plastic enema bag, without barium sulfate, with tubing and an air retention tip with cuff suitable for use in radiographic barium enema studies.
Salient characteristics:
The fountain syringe shall be a clean, disposable, transparent plastic enema bag, with tubing and air retention tip, capable of holding a minimum of 64 fluid ounces (1920 cc).
The bag shall have a leak-proof, screw-on cap, and provisions for hanging the bag during use. The bag shall be continuously heat sealed and leak-proof.
The bag shall have an attached, approximately 86 inches (218 cm) long, nominal 1/2 inch lumen transparent pliable tubing attached at the bottom and flush with the inside of the bag. The other end of the tubing shall be attached to a Miller style retention tip with a 100 cc capacity cuff. There shall be no obstruction of the bore of the tubing.
The Miller tip shall have an attached nominal 1/4 inch outside diameter tubing approximately 22-1/2 inches long, designed for patient air insufflations and an attached nominal 1/8 inch outside diameter tubing, approximately 20-1/2 inches long, designed to introduce air into the air retention cuff. The tubes shall be designed to accept an air bulb patient insufflators and a one-shot cuff inflator, respectively. The inflation devices shall not be attached to these tubes and should be easily recognized for the purpose intended by shape and color.
Both the nominal 1/4 inch outside diameter and the 1/2 inch lumen tubing shall be individually equipped with slide-type clamps, made of non-corrosive material, and capable of single-handed activation for cessation of the flow without breakage or distortion of the clamps or incision of the tubing.
