COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAG, HOT WATER-ICE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Type III of Federal Specification ZZ-B-586D which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a hot water bottle/ice bag combination designed for single patient use for medical treatment.
Salient characteristics:
The hot water-ice bag shall be a hot water bottle/bag combination designed for single patien use. The bag shall be of the following types:
Type I – oval shaped, general purpose bag.
Type II – rib-knit band designed for extremity use.
Type I Bag
The type I bag shall be a conventional combination hot water bottle and ice bag having a minimum capacity of 1800 milliliters. The bag shall be fabricated principally of natural rubber or synthetic rubber, or a mixture of both. The outside surfaces of the bag shall be free from tackiness and the inside surfaces of the bags shall not stick together. The rubber compound shall be free from any ingredients that might cause irritation of the skin. The bag shall be provided with a leakproof stopperless closure and a suspension tab with reinforced eyelet.
The bag shall have dimensions of 9-3/4 inches (24.76 cm) ± 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) long by 7-3/4 inches (19.68 cm) ± 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) wide, excluding suspension tab and closure.
