COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SPECIMEN COLLECTION UNIT, URINE AND STOOL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a washable, durable, plastic urine and stool specimen collection unit for single-patient use.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a molded polystyrene specimen collection unit designed to fit under a commode seat and provide for the collection of urine and stool specimens.
The specimen collection unit shall have the following dimensions:
Overall width- 13-1/2 inches (34.3 cm)
Overall height- 3-1/2 inches (8.9 cm)
Cavity width at top- 6 inches (15.2 cm)
Cavity width at bottom- 4-5/8 inches (11.7 cm)
The specimen collection unit shall have a printed or molded volume scale of contrasting color to measure patient output in ounces and cubic centimeters.
The specimen collection unit shall be free from objectionable odor, sharp edges, cracks, holes, or thin areas. The edges shall be smooth or rounded to preclude injury to patients.
The specimen collection unit shall be sufficiently sturdy to permit repeated use and shall be capable of being washed in hot water without deterioration. When filled with water at 140oF, + 10oF, 0oF, (60oC + 6oC, -0oC) and placed on a flat surface for one hour, the unit shall not show evidence of leakage, cracking, warping, or deformation.
Workmanship. The specimen collection unit shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing one hundred specimen collection units, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
