COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SPECIMEN KIT, URINE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a kit suitable for patient collecting of an uncontaminated urine specimen in military medical treatment facilities.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a patient oriented sterile midstream urine collection kit for use by male and female patients.
The kit shall consist of:
A plastic container with a minimum capacity of 120 ml (ounces) and an accompanying lid which, when in place, makes the container leakproof.
Sufficient pads or swabs for cleaning and drying the area involved, with sample iodine cleansing solution. Iodophor soap towelettes shall be acceptable.
Easily understood instructions for patient use.
A suitable means for identifying the patient and specimen.
Each kit shall be supplied sterile, wrapped in an easily opened immediate see-through container or impair its serviceability.
Workmanship. The urine specimen kit shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing fifty individually packaged sterile kits, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
