COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAG, ICE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Types I and II of Federal Specification ZZ-B-586, which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a conventional ice bag suitable for use in medical treatment.
Salient characteristics:
The bag shall be a conventional ice bag suitable for use in medical treatment. The bag shall be of the following types:
Type I – oval shaped ice bag.
Type II – rectangular, throat-type, ice bag.
The type II bag shall be a conventional oval shaped ice bag. It shall have dimensions of 11 inches (27.94 cm) ± 1 inch (2.54 cm) long by 7 inches (17.78 cm) ± 1 inch (2.54 cm) wide. The bag shall have at least two tying tabs which shall be securely attached to the opposite ends of the long axis. The bag shall have a filler opening with a minimum 1-3/4 inch diameter, and a threaded cap to securely seal the opening.
The type II bag shall be a conventional throat ice bag. It shall have n oblong shape and shall measure at least 11 inches (27.94 cm) in length and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width at the middle. The sides of the bag shall be concave, so that the width in the center shall be 3/4 inch (1.91 cm) ± 1/4 inch (0.64 cm) less than the width at the ends. The bag shall have a minimum of two tying tabs, one at each end of the long axis, and a suitable tie tape.
