PAD, BED LINEN PROTECTIVE (reusable)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes an absorbent, reusable bed linen protective pad which provides protection from excretions encountered in patient care.
Salient characteristics. Pad bed linen protective shall consist of at least 3 layers. The facing layer shall be approximately six ounces per square yard of 80 percent cotton and 20 percent polyester. The pad shall have one or more soaker layers to trap and hold moisture away from the body. Soaker layers shall wick moisture into the pad and inhibits its return to the surface. Moisture shall be evenly distributed throughout the pad; and a barrier layer shall prevent moisture penetration to the bed linens. The top layers shall be quilted. All four edges shall be seamed and finished or bound. The pad shall not pucker at the edges nor shall the material gather, bunch, ball or slip. The pad shall absorb a minimum of 1500 ml. when tested in accordance with paragraph 5.4 ASTM standard D1117-80. The pads shall retain their absorbency and structure after a minimum of 150 wash cycles and shall not wrinkle as a result of laundering. Finished size of the pad shall be as follows:
Size 1 – 30 inches by 36 inches, plus or minus 1 inch (91 cm by 76 cm plus or minus 2.54 cm). Pad shall weight not less than 13 ounces (368 grams)
Size 2 – 36 inches by 36 inches, plus or minus 1 inch (91 cm by 91 cm plus or minus 2.54 cm). Pad shall weight not less than 20 ounces (567 grams).
