COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SPECIMEN KIT, URINE (MIDSTREAM)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description describes a kit to be used for collecting a sterile urine specimen from male or female without catheterization or attendant.
Salient characteristics. Specimen Kit, Urine, Midstream shall be sterile, disposable, and consist of: translucent, plastic (polypropylene), 118 ml to 113 ml (4 to 4-1/2 oz.) capacity specimen container, with dual graduations of oz. and ml/cc in 1/4 oz. and 10 ml/cc increments molded into the cup; with leakproof screw cap. The cup shall be stable on a flat surface, and shall be free from objectionable odor, sharp edges, deformations, cracks, burrs, holes, or thin areas. Provisions for patient identification either a label or write-on surface that accepts, at minimum, the patient’s name and room number. Each kit includes clearly visible instructions for use.
TYPE I- The kit shall contain two strong and soft tissues, three individually wrapped nonwoven wipes each 3.17 cm x 6.35 cm (1-1/4 inches x 2-1/2 inches) + 0.32 cm (1/8 inch), single fold, impregnated with moist Povidone Iodine, USP. Shall be packaged in an easy open package which shall maintain sterility until open or damaged.
TYPE II- The kit shall contain sufficient pads or swabs for cleaning and drying the area involved, with ample iodine cleansing solution. Iodophor soap towelettes shall be acceptable. Shall be packaged in an easy open package which shall maintain sterility until open or damaged.
Workmanship. The midstream specimen kit shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
UNIT. KIT-TYPE I- One specimen kit, as specified, constitutes one unit.
PACKAGE- TYPE II- Fifty specimen kits, as specified constitutes one unit.
