JAR, SCREW CAP, OINTMENT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for VA Specification X-1536e which cancelled and in preference to Interim Federal Specification DD-B-00585b. Type III Style I.
This commercial item description describes a jar with a screw cap closure for use din dispensing ointments.
Salient characteristics. Jar, Screw Cap Ointment, round with plastic screw cap.
Type I Plastic, opaque white, provides label space of 1-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches 3.75 cm x 6.25 cm).
Size 1 – 2 oz. to 2-/2 oz. (56g to 70g.)
Size 2 – 4 oz. to 4-1/2 oz. (112g to 126g)
Size 3 – 8 oz. capacity (224g)
Size 4 – 16 oz. capacity (448g)
Type II – Glass or Plastic which has been found acceptable by the pharmaceuticals, and conforms to United States Pharmacopeia (USP) requirements for light transmission.
The minimum overflow capacity of an ointment jar shall be of the required fluid ounce capacity. The overflow capacity shall also be less than twice that capacity.
The ointment jar shall be cylindrical in shape with a continuous type threaded finish for a screw cap closure. A bead may be present at a level below the finish. The sidewalls shall be essentially perpendicular to the bottom. The available label space shall be such that, with the screw cap fully in place the minimum outside height from bottom edge of closure (to bottom of jar) shall be:
